Cheder

Welcome to our Cheder. Classes are on Sunday mornings, and we cover all ages from 3 to 13 (bar/bat mitzvah). Our Head is Simone Cohen-Elf.

60 children are presently on the roll and classes span pre-school to Bar/Bat Mitzvah ages. About half of the children attend a Jewish school and the curriculum reflects the needs of both those that do and those that don't attend these schools. There is also a vibrant post Bar/Bat Mitzvah group which meets at Cheder, goes out to local cafe for coffee and chat, and then comes back to assist in classrooms, listen to younger children read, help plan activities/events for festivals etc.

Our Cheder is renown for its warm friendly atmosphere. The curriculum reflects contemporary issues, Reform Judaism and integration of cheder and Shul life. Children also lead and participate in regular Shabbat morning family services, which gives children confidence reading in Shul and a sense of worth and achievement. For parents there is a Bagel Bar, where they can have coffee, bagels, read the Sunday papers, meet teachers to discuss their children's progress informally and just relax.
